Tokyo

A Tokyo running tour could be one of the highlights of your life. Tokyo is one of the world’s most rewarding cities to run because you can combine major landmarks, riverside scenery, and large parks in a single route—especially early in the morning when the air is cooler and the streets are calmer. Classic choices include the Imperial Palace loop for a quintessential “Tokyo runner” experience, the green paths around Yoyogi Park and Meiji Jingu, the Sumida River area linking Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree, the open waterfront around Odaiba and Tokyo Bay, and runner-friendly venues like Komazawa Olympic Park or the long Arakawa river path for steadier efforts. Make unforgettable memories with a Tokyo running tour.

Running in the Kanto region starts, of course, with Tokyo—a thrilling, neon-filled metropolis that every traveler wants to experience.

But for runners, Tokyo can be tricky: streets are often narrow, traffic lights are frequent, and sidewalks are crowded. Without the help of local runners who know the safest routes, best times of day, and hidden green paths, it’s hard to fully enjoy a stress-free run here.

The real beauty of Kanto running, however, is that it doesn’t end with Tokyo. Just a short train ride away, you’ll find Yokohama’s waterfront promenades, Kamakura’s temple-lined hills and coastal roads, Chiba’s seaside paths, and Saitama’s wide riverside tracks—perfect for long, uninterrupted runs. These areas offer more space, fewer crowds, and a chance to see everyday Japanese life outside the capital.

We started the tour at 6:00 a.m. At that hour, Tokyo was still quiet, so it was very comfortable to run. Unlike the image I had in mind, Tokyo turned out to be a very green city, which I really liked. Then again, that may have been because Hidehito chose those kinds of routes for me.

15 km was a bit of a challenging distance for me, but thanks to the guide’s thoughtful pacing and the shaded route he chose, I was able to finish it without any problems. I got to see many different sides of Tokyo, so I’m really glad I chose the 15 km tour instead of the 7 km or 10 km one.

Because we started at 6:30, we were able to run without getting caught in the crowds. A big part of that was probably Hidehito choosing routes that were not crowded. Thanks to him, I was able to see that Tokyo is actually a much more runner-friendly and easy city to run in than I had expected.

I had such a great morning out with Hedehito. He met me at my hotel and took me on a wonderful 17k loop through the city. This was the highlight of my time in Tokyo! Will recommend to all my friends who come to Tokyo.

We set off from where I was staying in Shibuya and explored all kinds of places around Tokyo. I never expected to see so much—Tokyo Tower, the Imperial Palace, Shinjuku, the Olympic Stadium, and more.
On my own, I probably would not even have made it to Shibuya Crossing.
Since Tokyo has so many sights to see, I would recommend the 21 km tour if you are going to run.
I’m really glad I chose this tour.
