Aomori
Aomori is an underrated running destination where fresh sea air and big northern scenery are always close. The city’s waterfront is the signature experience: a run along Aomori Bay lets you link the open promenade around the port with landmark stops such as the Nebuta museum, the A-FACTORY area, and the photogenic Bay Bridge, with wide views across the water that feel especially crisp at sunrise. For a change of pace, you can turn inland toward the Sannai-Maruyama site and its surrounding greenery, which gives you a quieter, more expansive atmosphere than a typical city loop.
What makes Aomori stand out is the balance between simplicity and character—routes are easy to follow, the scenery is distinctive, and the city feels like a true gateway to the wider region, with the mountains and hot-spring areas of northern Tohoku never far away once you’ve finished your run.
